I've been making this series of tutorials for use on DeviantART. Each
Let's Draw! tutorial will take a specific cartoon character and break him
down into basic shapes. You can use the tutorial in two ways: as a reference sheet
for the character (I try to make the drawings as clear and accurate as possible) or
as a guide to construct your own original poses with that character base.
Note: These are graphics, so some of them are quite big.
Let's Draw! #1: Kirby
Difficulty:
Start thinking 3D! This tutorial introduces the fundamentals of construction,
and the three vital views (front, side and plan) which give you a complete
understanding of the object.
Let's Draw! #2: Meta Knight
Difficulty:
Upping the ante: let's take a look at Kirby's nemesis, Meta Knight (SSB Brawl
design). This tutorial uses the same skills as #1, but in more detail.
Let's Draw! #3: Sonic the Hedgehog
Difficulty:
A "ball-and-rubber-hose" type character, Sonic might look modern but his
design goes back to 1920s animation. This tutorial shows how to draw and pose him
consistently from any angle (Sonic Adventure model design).
Let's Draw! #4: NiGHTS (Head Construction)
Difficulty:
Part 1 of 2: how to construct the complex head shape of Sega's NiGHTS.
Let's Draw! #5: NiGHTS (Full Body)
Difficulty:
Part 2 of 2. NiGHTS is quite an advanced subject, so be sure you are
comfortable with construction and the three views before venturing within.
Let's Draw! supplementary: Using References
A short discussion on ways to use reference images as an aid to your drawing.
