Ahh, yes... the good old "rare Chao recipes" page. SA2B has a much wider range of Chao breeding combinations, making breeding an important part of Chao.
Aside from the regular Chao you start with, there are three types of rare Chao egg.
Pure: This Chao is a plain coloured Chao. Coloured eggs are available from Black Market.
Shiny: This Chao is a coloured Chao with a gleaming surface. Shiny eggs are available from Black Market.
Metallic: This Chao has a tinted chrome effect. Metallic eggs are only available from Sonic Advance.
You can breed Chao from these eggs together in different combinations to get brand new types of Chao:
Duotone: This Chao is a coloured Chao with highlights like a regular Chao.
Shiny Normal: A regular Chao, but with shiny-surface skin.
Translucent: This Chao is see-through and can even be completely invisible.
Pure Normal: This Chao is a regular Chao that works like a pure coloured Chao.
You might want to look at the page on Chao genetics if you're going to be a serious Chao breeder. I will not be held legally responsible if the information breaks your brain.
The disappointing thing about pure coloured Chao is that they're always just the one colour, no matter what you do to them. If you evolve one into a Shadow Chao, he won't have those awesome stripes. Duotone Chao, which have to be bred in-game, are coloured differently, but they have the markings of a regular Chao:

Every pure Chao color has a duotone version. To get a duotone baby, breed a coloured Chao with a regular Chao. You may get a pure coloured Chao or a regular Chao if you're unlucky - just try again. The baby, if it is duotone, will have highlights like regular Chao but with the colour of the pure parent. Due to the way the highlights mix with the base colour, some of these guys can look really odd and cool.

Take care when trying to get a duotone white! These babies come out looking like a regular Chao! Pet the baby Chao with a Dark character to test it. If it starts to develop white highlights instead of red, it is duotone white! So don't just assume there's no such thing as a duotone white because all you're getting is babies that look like regular Chao.
Shiny Normal Chao are regular Chao with the shiny skin tone, like Sonic-2 below. They can look as if they're sparkling, or made out of highly polished plastic.

To get a Shiny Normal, breed any shiny Chao with a regular Chao. The baby will be either Shiny, Regular, or Shiny Normal.
A weird Chao that's shiny and see-through, like a bubble.

These Chao are attainable by breeding a Metallic and Shiny Chao together. Different Metallic and Shiny Chao give different levels of transparency.
Shiny White/Metallic: Transparent light blue-green, yellow highlights.
Shiny Red/Metallic: Transparent green with yellow highlights.
Shiny Lime Green/Metallic: Invisible except for the eyes and wings.
Shiny Brown/Metallic: Shiny blue/white.
Shiny Yellow/Metallic: Invisible except for the eyes and wings.
Shiny Sky Blue/Metallic: Blue-green, yellow highlights, highly clear.
Shiny Pink/Metallic: Milky green, quite opaque.
Shiny Purple/Metallic: Transparent sky blue, green highlights.
Shiny Grey/Metallic: Invisible except for the eyes and wings.
Shiny Orange/Metallic: Transparent bright green, yellow highlights.
Shiny Green/Metallic: Transparent green, highly clear.
Shiny Blue/Metallic: Transparent blue.
Shiny Black/Metallic: Transparent blue-green, pale, quite opaque.
If you breed a Pure Coloured Chao with a Regular Chao, you have a chance of getting a strange Chao.
The regular Chao color, from a default Chao, is actually a type of Duotone. It is possible to breed a Pure version of the regular Chao.
What you see is a Chao that's a flat colour but changes colour depending on how you evolve him. He's sometimes been called the Chameleon Chao, but he's not a myth. I have one. When born, the Chao looks like a slightly off Pure White. As soon as you pet him with a Dark character, however, you notice something's very strange: the entire Chao changes colour uniformly.

PN: changes due to second evolution
What happens is that the Chao retains the colour changing abilities of a regular Chao, but doesn't have the tints or markings of a regular Chao.
Pure Normals, when evolved to Chaos, go plain white - except for the Dark Chaos, which gets purple eyelids. Hero evolutions are also plain white, so if you want to see the colour changing in action, make your Pure Normal a Neutral or Dark.
Breed a coloured Chao with a Shiny Chao to get a new Shiny Coloured Chao. Ie. breed a Pure Red with a Shiny White and you might get a Shiny Red.
Breed a Shiny Chao with a regular Chao to get a new Coloured Chao. Ie. breed a Shiny Blue with a Regular to get a Pure or Duotone Blue.
Shininess is inherited as a separate quality that's either on or off.
This can be a great shortcut. For instance, the Shiny Black Chao egg only appears in Black Market when you have all 180 emblems. Thankfully you can just buy a plain black Chao and breed him with one of your other shiny Chao.
